Hi Erik- Jan

A BIG Thank you for the above - I am now aware of the blasted things and followed you guide AND noted the limitations.
Thank you again for taking the trouble.

Keep up the good work [and congrats on your English]

Sorry for the late reply, but yes this can take very long. The more memory you put in your pc, the faster the indexing goes because swapping is the main cause I think.

This post saved my bacon! My web hosting service did something that erased the auto_increment flag on every table in every database that we had with them, and I was stumped. They said the problem was with my web apps. But of course they had all been working perfectly for over a year, then suddenly all failed at the same time.

Hi Erik, I'm also trying to import wikipedia using Plan B:) But after many tries, there is some problem remained and I wanna to know whether you had encountered it.

After DROP PRIMARY KEY, DROP INDEX and MODIFY (auto_increment column) on tables "page", "revision" and "text", the importing speed is indeed very fast(about 2000/sec). But when the importing is finished and I want to ADD the primary key and the indexes, the speed is very slow, especialy on table "text". It taking more than 4 hours before I canceled it, since I don't know whether there is some problems.

On your computer, how much time did it take to recreate the indexes after importing ? Thank you :)

This looks like a great piece of software. I was thinking about writing something like that myself. Is WikiBench already available for download?

This also happens if you've messed with the InnoDB Buffer pool settings in my.ini or my.cnf before shutting down the server.

The solution is to shut down mysql and remove the ib_logfile* files from the mysql data dir, and then restart mysql.

As long as the server was shut down cleanly, it should come back up and this error will stop.
